About the Role
The Chief Operating Officer (COO) of CMLS will be the operational leader responsible for overseeing the day-to-day functions of the organization. Reporting directly to the CEO, the COO will drive operational excellence, member engagement, and program execution. This individual will ensure CMLS continues to deliver meaningful membership while fostering a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and collaboration.
The COO will play a pivotal role in optimizing internal processes, managing financial operations, and strengthening relationships with key industry stakeholders. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in MLS or association management, business operations, and a deep understanding of the real estate and MLS ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the daily operations of CMLS, ensuring efficiency, effectiveness, and alignment with strategic objectives.
- Manage financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, and ensuring fiscal responsibility.
- Lead the development and execution of member programs and educational initiatives.
- Drive operational improvements and implement best practices to enhance organizational performance.
- Foster strong relationships with MLS organizations, real estate industry leaders, and strategic partners.
- Oversee marketing, communications, and event planning teams to strengthen CMLS’s brand and industry influence.
- Lead and mentor a team of professionals, ensuring a high-performance culture focused on service, innovation, and growth.
- Recruiting, developing, and retaining key talent within CMLS.
- Monitor industry trends and regulatory developments to position CMLS as a thought leader and advocate for the MLS community.
About the Candidate
The ideal candidate for the COO position at CMLS is an experienced leader with a proven track record in operations, MLS or association management, and the real estate industry. They are an operational powerhouse, strong communicator, and results-driven executive who thrives in a dynamic environment.
Qualifications & Experience
- 10+ years of leadership experience in operations, MLS or association management, or real estate-related companies.
- Deep knowledge of the MLS industry, real estate regulations, and MLS or association management best practices.
- Strong financial acumen, with experience managing budgets, financial reporting, and strategic forecasting.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams, foster collaboration, and drive organizational growth.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with experience working with Boards, committees, and industry partners.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities with a focus on innovation and efficiency.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize effectively, and deliver high-impact results.
Working Conditions
- Virtual work-from-home office supervising other remote employees
- Flexible location so long as within the USA and within 50 miles of a major airport
- Travel required
